ノルウェイの森 • Norwegian Wood

Basicly it's a romance story happen in late 1960's, in the revolution era in Japan. Romance, suicide, erotic things, those stuff are here inside the story. But whatever, i'm not gonna tell anything about the story, it makes me shiver uncomfortably writing it.

The movie directed by Trần Anh Hùng the one who direct The Scent of Green Papaya. This is the second movie i watch that made by him. I always like his way of telling the story in a way that i would call "poetic". With less dialog and more sense of space, timing and calmness. Also the music which consist a track composed by Jonny Greenwood (who also composed for There Will Be Blood). I would say the music are blended perfectly with the scene, nice pace and timing, slick editing.

Another things that i really love are the clothes, the haircut and the ambient, the atmosphere of 1960's that are perfectly made. The color, texture and accessories are chosen carefully that i think based on the mood "at ease" and "down to earth". I have one comment about the cast, i think the one who played Reiko is the most beautiful than the other girl who played Naoko or Midori.

The story also get in to me so much on the similiarity with my personal life, and for some reason i'm not gonna tell just yet. Other less secret reason on why this movie are really get in to me is because it's like describing so well my two-sided self; the calm earth-toned minimalism assertiveness, and the scyzoprenich strange psychedelia twisted logic self righteous, well i don't expect anybody to understand that though.

I would probably not gonna interested in the book if it's not because of the movie and the soundtrack. Well as a character in the book named Nagasawa tells that "You shouldn't read book people read", yes i am definitely agree with that, and Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood is definitely a book that many people read, but the movie is so good i end up reading the book anyway. Yeah it felt strange to read "You shouldn't read book people read" in a book many people read.

The book tells more detail about the story and the depth of each character, i was actually surprised a lot on how deep is every character is and many of detailed stories told by some character (which i agree with the movie director that it's not actually really important much to be on the movie). If you look from the details that told from the book, it's like the movie were actually a summary of the book.

The book also differ from the movie here and there. I always think it's fine because movie is an "adaptation", a freedom for the director to adapt the story from one form of art into another form of art and use their own vision of the book.

The Soundtrack are mostly Jonny Greenwood except track 3, 7, 12 are by Can, and some track from The Doors, Can, and obvious The Beatles's Norwegian Wood are not included.

Humming Mad #2: Whistle

This is a free gig with donation box on the entrance. In the entrance i was greeted by an old woman, i thought i go to the wrong place, but it was a right place. I got a free sticker there, i take two. Again, i'm going there alone and meet some people i knew. One of my friend play in the band; Barefood and after a long wait for my shyness to go away, finally meet and greet awkwardly with one of my online friend Toro Elmar, who actually play too, either as additional or already a member for Individual Distrotion.

So as usual i come too early and it was raining hard so the gig delayed like 2 hours. Then i go to some place i know near the gig. I missed one band when i come, then Vague played, then Wells from Aussie and that other band. I actually started to enjoy the music more since The Wellington played and all three bands after that; Deugalih, Barefood, and Individual Distortion. Oh right this was on December 10, just last week.

It's an event by we.hum collective, a community made to have fun in a positive way, i guess. It's like straight edge scene, well some people still smoke in there though. There's one thing that kind of make it uncomfortable there was the guitar amplifier, it's just that the noise level is unbearable for a very small place (inside a studio). I have to cover my left ear or i might lose several hearing level, apart from that it's all good.

Another down time for me is that there was a time when the MC are really funny and i laugh with everyone around me, it's fun but it also makes me feel like i'm trying to blend in to those group of friends who know each other, and i'm there alone haha, still it was really fun night though. RRREC FEST #2

It is the last month of the year, there's several festival or gig i atttend. So this is not like any of my usual post in this blog. Yeah, i'm going out! Going solo and meeting strangers, oh i meet some people i know too.

So this is the first, named RRREC fest #2, the festival were actually held for three days on 3,4,5 December. i didn't come on the 1st day because it's just some independent movie screening, instead i go to other free concert titled blues concert, but it's not actually blues concert, damn. So the 2nd festival day held in an old pub. I come too early too the pub i don't even have to pay for the entry and the bands is still rehearsing, so i go back to my car, sleeping until i heard the band play. There are 6 band played that night. Backwood Sun, 9 Maps (Hong Kong), Risky Summerbee & The Honeythief, Sigmun, The Cambodian Space Project (Cambodia), The Experience Brothers.

I never listen to any of the band, i like 9 Maps, Sigmun, The Cambodian Space Project. Especially The Cambodian Space Project! Their music is like mixing 60's-70's Rocknroll with traditional Cambodian music, it sound's really uuh i don't know how to describe it, psychedelic stunning wonderful great yeah yeah. Everybody in the venue are dancing, cheering, clapping on this Cambodian band, pretty much the climax that night.

I didn't take much photo or record any, only several and yeah it's bad photograph, and bad photograph is a bad photograph no excuse, but i have excuse :p I was alone, nervous, and 1/128 drunk (if it's still categorized as drunk). I also bought the festival shirt, sticker, button, got the booklet and the pub pin.

The 3rd day, there are actually 3 band venues this day. I go to the main one. 9 bands played here; The Kuda, L'Alphalpha, Risky Summerbee & The Honeythief, Hightime Rebellion, Zeke Kasheli, The Cambodian Space Project, Dikeroyok Wanita, The Experience Brothers, Deerhoof.

Well i got a chance to watch The Cambodian Space Project again and finally watch Hightime Rebellion. I come late when L'Alphalpha play, they sounds are like err Keane mixed with Sigur Rós, they played good (and boring) with a clean ending. The next band is Hightime Rebellion, a new band that looks and sounds promising. I record one of their song which is my favourite; Sail, you can watch it in this post, down there.

Next on stage are Zeke Kasheli. Apart from absurd lyric and theatrical costume, their music is actually boring for me, i'm not insterested, nuff said. I prefer Zeke's previous project; Zeke and The Popo. The next act is the awesome band; The Cambodian Space Project, well, like the night before, everybody fill in the space in front of the stage and dancing around together, cheering, whistle.

After that Dikeroyok Wanita rock the stage, i already watch them like 2 or 3 times before, well i know the vocalist Inyo, as we ever be in the event organizer and volunteer work together and at one event his band playing too, but probably he doesn't remember me if i meet him hahah. Then play again The Experience Brothers. I actually are not really into this band, but strangely their song are start to get inside my head lately.

Last band that everyone's waiting, Deerhoof, well not everyone. This noise rock experimental bla bla bla band reminds me of Melt-Banana and Battles. Pretty much enjoyable tempo for me at least and pretty good stage act. I provided the video down there, i don't record it.

The story start with a medical student who find a dead body in the wood. He doesn't know that the body belongs to a son of a goverment official. In confusion he find an advertising from a detective who earn a living by snooping cheating wives, tell to the husband and take a picture of it, and sell it to the paper. He try to hire the detective to find the killer. After refusing several times, the detective agreed as the money reward is really big. That is the beginning to the whole story which includes opium smuggling, Japanese occupation in Korea, police corruption, and child-prostitution.

Despite the serious social problem showed in the movie, this movie are actually fun to watch. It definetely will reminds you to Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes, yeah that one hollywood movie. What i really like is how the costume and the environment are designed so well. It really show how Korea look like on that era in 1910.

I read several negative article, especially criticize the story that are spreading too much, loosing it's focus, and the camera works in the action scene. As for the story, i think it's quite alright too have many theme included like that in a movie like this, as it actually becomes more like an ambient, a way to show an era's condition, and not as a main story. As for the camera works on one particular scene, yeah it's actually a bit annoying, but still watchable. Overall i love this movie, it's funny i'm telling you. I only hate one scene which includes a slit throat argh!

I didn't find any good trailer on Youtube, so this one below is more like a mixed clip with the ending soundtrack, the other trailer are showing too much spoiler, and none of the trailer are in good quality. Well it's better if you just watch the movie though.

HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL

Frederick Loren, a mysterious millionaire who offers $10,000 to a group of carefully chosen individuals. If they can stay 12 hours night in the haunted house, a place dripping with murder story from the past. Well i consider everything i tell beyond this is spoiler, so you just have to watch it. What is good is how the story are drifting you away slowly, haunting you with carefully crafted dialog and moment. It never be boring even one second i watch this movie.

I read somewhere that this movie were actually a B-movie, but i don't really care. Yeah the effect are cheezy even for that year, but the story is great! what else do you need? It also released in a color version, which i found not really interesting because it loose it's calmness and simplicity of black and white movie particulary this one. It's even been said that this was the movie that inspired Alfred Hitchcock to make his first bona fide horror movie Psycho (I didn't watch it yet though).

砂の女 • Woman in the Dunes

At first i wasn't interested in this movie, because i thought it will be just some senseless erotic stuff. But it turns out to be one of my all time favourite. The calmness of the music and the bizzare hypnotic intro screenplay that really make a good start up for the movie, which is really calm, intoxicating and terrifying at the same time.

The story is about entomologist in a search for some kind of bug in the desert. Miss his bus home, he asked by the villagers to stay overnight on a house in a sandpit with one woman in it. When the morning come, found out that the rope ladder is gone, which started the whole main story of one man who struggle on isolation in the desert.

I really like how the director, Hiroshi Teshigahara, bring the sense of isolation in this movie. Most of the time, the screen is in complete darkness, some shot only give you some pure abstraction of the desert scene. The minimalist soundtrack just make the sense of isolation to be more powerful. The movie won the Special Jury Prize at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival and, somewhat unusually for an avant-garde film, was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in the same year. In 1965, Teshigahara was nominated for the Best Director Oscar.

David Beauchard • Epileptic

Known as "L'Ascension du haut mal" in France. The story are mostly about David B.'s epileptic brother and his struggle to become a writer and artist. From his childhood imagination and war stories around him to their first struggle against epilepsy, which started the endless circle of doctor, from hospital usual medics to alternative therapies. All the story illustrated in a strong wood-cut style drawings with a lot of bizzare imaginary, it becomes a work of deep darkness and luminosity.

It's visually stunning and threatening. It illustrates the horrible fear and sadness, the reality. When it comes to epilepsy, which is something that still a mystery even for the advanced technology nowadays, for those who have it or the family of someone who have it, like in David B. case, probably art is the most possible way for them to response and deal with it.

This Gomess are the first Kaiju that appear in Ultra Q series. I think it just a sligthly modified version of godzilla. Come from the X-Plus line, this mini version (6 inch) are having a real good detail on sculpt and painting. It includes the base, which based on the episode, not big but really nice.

Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Basically it's a story about Steve Zissou who live in a boat as a marine researcher, who made a movie about his journey. I love ship, i really like the small compact bedroom inside a ship, very subtle and comfortable. I just love it on how everything in the movie is peculiarly iconic. Great location, sets, music. The straight-forwardness of the dialogue which probably won't happen in real live yet believable, even if it most likely happen in a comic. It made this movie mixed up between drama, fantasy and comedy.

Great movie, cinematography, the balance on the screen, details, phase, damn how's everything is fine in this movie. Oh yeah the uniform, blue tracksuit, orange beanie, and Zissou shoes, well i want those all. Oh including that Intern shirt. Overall it's an awesome packed other worldie comedy. But it's not for everyone i guess, some people just think this as a joke, senseless crap, but i love it anyway. Cut!

Music mostly by Mark Mothersbaugh, if you love games maybe you'll find his music familiar. It actually reminds me of The Sims music, and yes he is the composer. Also some awesome cover song of David Bowie from Seu Jorge, who also play in the movie.

Doraemon Manga

Finally i finished my Doraemon comic book collection, the original Number 1-45 and Doraemon Adventure Number 1-24. As seen on the photo, the figure is from Medicom but i didn't take a good picture on the Medicom toy because it had slightly bad paint, i will post the better quality on the toy after one day i repair the paint (when i got the skill and the tool of course).

First 3 weeks on April this year, suddenly i have an urge to finish it because there's a new release in Indonesia with a different version. The usual version are read left to right, a reverse from the original Japanese version, but this year it start to be released in a version that read right to left as in the original. So i think it will not be released left to right anymore, i just have to buy it before it replaced on the retail. Anyway it has been released again and again for about more than 20 years, so there are plenty of cheap 2nd hand book on the market, so it's quite easy to finish this collection.

And photos below are my most memorable cover. It has a lot memories from my childhood and especially book number 24; not just the cover but all the story inside it, because this is the first comic book i ever read. I remember my mum buying it when i was..err..i don't remember when, but obviously i was very little and it was sold on the street with bargain price.

Is it rare? of course it is! but this one is Indonesian version, not really expensive. The story are less longer than the movie and the translation might made you chukle a bit, because it remember you sometimes with google translate. But still, i think this is one of a must have for star wars fans.

Blade Runner

I wasn't interested in this movie before, but after few trailer and listen to the sounds, i just felt an incredible dystopian future in this movie. Found out also that Han "ford" Solo are the main character, must be a good movie. The story is about alternative future with blade runner hunting "human made" human named replicant that are stronger and become a killer. Not quite interesting but the design of the environment are really awesome! a mixed future America with Tokyo-esque feels, a lightsaber umbrella, a flying car, and a haunting music score wrap it all in one.

There are several version of this movie released in the market, and i only watch the original and the Final Cut. The Final Cut version was actually pretty good, because i watch it in 720p, and the remarkable re-shoot scene, like when Deckard shot replicant who run half-naked and the scene where deckard talk to snake seller (when the dialog and ford's lips doesn't sync, and now it's synced digitally).

One of the thing that make this movie awesome are the score that creates an ambient
of dystopian future feels eerie and comforting at the same times. Movie score by Vangelis, it was release several times including tribute album and unreleased track.

告白 • Confessions

Revenge is the main theme of this movie, but how the story tell through confessions is the one that make it interesting. The screenplay which really fresh and innovative oftenly using slowmotion and compotition that usually used on advertising and music video, and heavy use of soundtrack, somehow i feel like watching an advertising or a music video for almost two hours. The story are disturbing and terrifiying, but told in beautiful shot and acting.

The confessions are divided to some character first point of view to understand what they really had in mind. Looking from some different point of view, sometimes its funny when one character misinterpret the other.

Lastly, the soundtrack which heavily used on the movie are consist several indie artist like Boris, Cokiyu, PoPoyans and big band like Radiohead. Most of the song are depressing and sad, so you know what kind a movie this is heheh.

What are you usually put on shelves? toys? books? dvds? Anyway it's been 5 years i always try to make a good composition to put things inside shelves, and also i have to choose wisely which shelves is good, which color, which texture, etc. By looking for many references, usually i got inspiration by Japanese shelves in traditional Japanese interior (even a modern apartment can have traditional interior).

Recent months i just got more into it as i getting much more books and toys and everything else. When finally i found MUJI, i started to use they way to put stuff as a guide. How they make the looks minimal and somehow, seamless. I still building up the racks, so no photo yet. But you'll see below are few photos of shelving that i like (either material, color, composition, or aything else).

Mùi đu đủ xanh • The Scent of Green Papaya

One of the movie that makes you feel content when watching it. It tells the story with minimal dialog, natural ambient, and beautiful way to see life around from the point of view of Mùi, a little girl who work as an apprentice maid in rich vietnamese family. Started as apprentice, we see through with Mùi's daily activity serving the family, cooking, cleaning, get bullied with another kid. Untill she grow up and married. With minimal dialog, i think it's really easy for everyone to follow the story.

I didn't know that this movie win oscar and at caness. Well i guess i just watch an awesome movie. I don't like this trailer below, it could be better if there is no english speaker in it and let the trailer goes with original language.

They seems like band which have a laid back music mixed with awesome visual, i'll probably gonna snacth their new album which come out recently, especially after i watch the video of なんとなく今日の為に, a single of their new album, the one that caught my interest to listen to this band.

2001: a space odyssey

I just recently watch this slightly boring movie with mindblowing imagery (especially that year on 1968). It started reaaally slow on black out orchestra, then some image that i thought was just some photos, and continued with the first arc of monkey story, and well, you just have to watch the movie then. There isn't much dialog or story but the way kubrick envisioned the future are somehow accurate. This movie are really making another space movie on that era and sometimes after, are dumb comparing to this (oh that include star wars too).

It's actually still praised nowadays by movie entusiast for every aspect inside the movie, as kubrick himself has a popularity as known not only as a director, but as "genre" already. He did a really in depth research about how the future are, by asking a lot of people on space industry and other many.

When watching this half way, i thought this movie are made around 2001-2003 era, but to know it made on 1968 are blowing my mind! How can he make such a colorful effect at the end of the movie. When people nowadays are have a CGI in the head, Kubrick are actually using a traditional way on most effect in the movie as you can read it on wikipedia. Anyway this movie are also having a down side here, there are some of the long sequence that enough to make you bored even though the visual are awesome.

Yoshihiro Tatsumi • Hanyut

Hanyut is actually an Indonesian version of 劇画漂流 (Gekiga Hyoryu), released in America as "A Drifting Life". I'm not really a fan of gekiga, but Tatsumi's story about how he try to do an experiment on how manga are made, are really interesting. It's started on early of his life on 1945, post war era on Japan. Started making a standard 4 box humor manga and then inspired by movie, when at the time movie only played on theater. A biography that includes meeting Osamu Tezuka, try make a 3d manga, and also how manga industry evolved in Japan.

I think the book design are better than the American version, the choose of color and image. It's even better than the Japanese version , but the only problem is the choice of Typeface that used as Title. It just slightly cranky, i think the designer try to give a "drifting" feel to it but it just doesn't look nice with the entire design. I will probably choose a better steady font, it's gonna look good with Japanese Kanji Kana though.

There Will Be Blood

Few months ago i found Jonny Greenwood album which is a soundtrack of a movie, There Will Be Blood. It contain pure orchestra without any electric element add-on as we usually found in movie score these days. From hearing the score, i thought the movie was gonna be silent, kind of metropolis-esque image in my head. Finally i got a chance to watch the movie, and the first few minutes are actually indeed silent, absolutely no dialogue, and that kinda satisfy me hahah!

There Will Be Blood are basicly a movie about greed of one man; Daniel Plainview, in the cowboy era of early 20th century, oil era. His ambition of getting more and more oil, also (somehow) destroy any body who get in the way. Until he finally is rich enough to get away from everybody. Daniel Plainview played by Daniel Day-Lewis, from my point of view, a guy who have this kind of face is somebody you dont want to mess with. He is really fit into the character, monstrously greedy.

Even though it feels that Daniel Plainview is a villain, i really love it when he beat up Eli, i always (evil) laugh hard enough and shout; yes! yes! hit him! again! again! hahahah! because he is reaaaly annoying and always get in Daniel's way of getting anything (with his what so called; Intimidately charming way of asking people). The screenplay doesn't impress me but overral this movie is awesome, especially the heart shredding soundtrack and of course the hillarious ending!

Selfless grandma meet a city boy, on a summer holiday a mom deliver the boy from the city to a remote area which is the grandma live in. Change is the main theme of this movie, at first the boy pitying his grandma, selfish and careless. Through the time with his grandma, and through the love by a selfless grandma, the boy start to change and finally express his true feeling when they depart.

But really, i don't have much word to tell except that this movie is good, touching, and this is the first movie that make me cry, damn. The one and only scene that i found not pretensious and i can't say that it just a scene, or it just a movie, but it is so true.

살인의 추억 • Memories of Murders

Bong Joon-ho second movie that are based on true stories, it's about murder of several women. The murder killed them only when it rains. It's hard to find a track of murder on the scene, because it all wiped on mud and waters. What worst is that this one dumb detective tag along with a rude detective who's logic are so-so and non cooperative local on the crime scene. Then at some point come another detective who is better at this, but when things are going to be better there's always a flaw that make them stuck.

This movie have a good reception in south korea, and for me it has a beautiful screenplay, color, and storyline. Since this is Bong Joon-ho movie, you will laugh. I laugh mostly at a his movie trademark joke, like for example "drop kick". Well the murder is never found until now, so the case is still open, just hope they found it.

Just recently watch this movie, a classic Toho, The Mysterians. One reason to watch Toho stuff is to watch the monster, but i find Mogera is only a minor problem in the movie. But still it is entertaining to watch this classic piece. The Mysterians who only want 3 km of earth area, until everyone realize that they were actually want to invade the earth, then military started to attack and attack until they fly away from the earth.

Too bad i got the movie in dvdrip only and it's US version so it's dubbed in english, and i prefer more to the Japanese version with english subtitle because it has more feel to it. So i think I'll buy the HD version later and here is the HD trailer.

Ebisu Yoshikazu

Start drawing at his 40's Ebisu Yoshikazu already released several titled of manga, one that i already read is Salaryman From Hell. His drawing have a style that make a dimension as 2 dimensional as europe classical painting (i don't remember what era). It just kind of make me feel suffocated by 2 dimensional horror story.

2 men, 2 bikes, 20.000 miles, that's what about Long Way Round, my favourite show which about travelling around the world from London to New York with bike, and only using plane or little ship if there's no road. It's Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman who crossing through some Europe country then Ukraine, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Alaska. Few years later they do another journey from Scotland to South Africa and the show called Long Way Down. They crossover through some Europe country then to african country like Sudan, Rwanda, Egypt, Malawi, Uganda, Ethiopia, etc.

It's fun to watch the journey, meeting other people, camping, silly jokes, food, watching beautiful landscape. Not just that, this show explain the difficulty of crossing so much country which is the paper works, passport, visa, and also the road, sometimes it's hard, sometimes it's easy, and what should we do if something wrong is happening. Also the soundtrack made specially for the show by Stereophonics titled Long Way Round.

It just always fun watching Ewan McGregor, because everytime i watch him anywhere, the image always come up about him with lightsaber and there's few mention of star wars reference in Long Way Round and Long Way Down. The most surprising is that they visit the original shooting site of Luke Skywalker home in Tatooine, i mean Africa.

If you one to watch the show simply go to youtube, it's there i think. This show really inspired me so much, i think i gotta do some trip like this one day. On one tv show Ewan said that he's gonna do another journey (probably this year) from South America to North America, wow i just can't wait man just do the trip and show us.

I eat here twice, first i become like some kind of tester eat so much free, and the second time i eat it with family. My favourite dish is yellow curry, a bit sweet taste it's delicious. Though quite expensive for not so awesome menu.

BECK movie

I really wait for this upcoming live action movie of BECK, which will do a road show starting 4 September this year. If you don't know BECK it is actually a manga about a kid named Koyuki crossing path with music in his life, which eventually become what he best at. It become 24 episodes TV series anime, it doesn't cover all the story in manga and now is the time for live action movie.

The song in the TV are really good, it's more like Rage Againts the Machine + Red Hot Chilli Pepper + Oasis come together, a classic pices. They even make a cover of Beatles song "I've Got The Feeling". As you can see on the official movie website, they put RHCP and Oasis as soundtrack. The cast on this movie are really have a very similiar look with the character on the comic! it's really awesome! i hope this is as good as an adaptation for 20th Century Boys, hmmm we'll see.

I just realize that they just released new album on May this year. Well it scheduled for release on This month but it leaked on April, and i don't know about it?! This what so called indie duo are actually getting so freakin popular, it's 25 million play in last.fm!! Try listen to both of the album, then you'll understand how good they are, or at least that's what i think. Ethan always make a beat that can easily make your head down and up and when you realize, that actually, your body is moving.

When i looking back few months ago, their debut are worth to listen again and again. What change might be made by them on their second? nothing. It still have the energy that move your quiet room into a dance floor. The album is actually named the same as their debut, so people and webshop are putting (II) to avoid confusion.

Basicly Air Doll is a movie with a messsage about some social problem in most capitalism country especially Japan, which is loneliness. Story goes around on an Air Doll who found a heart, i know it sounds cliche but it has a lot of message in it about what's going on in life, a loneliness and some way to solve it.

This movie isn't recommended to those who want fun movie, since the reason i watch this is to watch my favourite korean actress Bae Doona, and i said WTF loudly when actually see her naked. It's probably not coming to theater and only showed up on festival and DVD because of nudity, some obscene and a little gore.

The soundtrack from solo artist World's End Girlfriend which i already listen to it a lot of time last year. No doubt about it, it's good.

Moon

After all of the movie i watch this month, this movie is the one that caught in my mind. A man named Sam Bell working on the moon alone, only accompanied by a robot with A.I. named Gerty which assigned to help Sam trough his job. A movie with very interesting plot, character, ending and beautiful soundtrack. This is definitely my kind of movie, you really should watch it.

When I watch this i had the same feeling and mood like when i watch The Machinist, The Jacket or even Fight Club. Those movie is somewhat similiar with Moon, it's loneliness and psychologycal twist is the point of the movie.

One more thing i like about Moon is a nicely crafted post-rock music by Clint Mansell as a soundtrack, which just fit perfectly with the movie. Well yeah once again it's definitely my kind of movie, very recommended.

The Cove

At first glance on the poster i thought this movie is about playing with dolphin or anything fun. When i see the genre which is documentary, i start to wonder what is the story and found out that it's about dolphin slaughtering in Japan! With curiousity i watch it. When you watch it, you will find the other face of Japanese in a small town covered up with secret, which actually even most Japanese don't know about it.

What's interesting in this movie and that is why i still watch it till the end is how actually the maker of this movie try to record the slaughter and show it to the world. Which is really interesting, it feels like watching a spy movie, but this one is a real deal spy action.

I hear this movie got an Academy Award for best documentary. Even without the award i still gonna recommend this movie to anyone, because it's really move me, and make me realize even Japanese nowadays still having that kind of problem, a problem that nobody even know if it exist. One reason i like japanese recording is that the drum sound awesome and really fit with the music, though Audio Safari focus mainly on electronical layer and vocal while gradually recruiting band member such as drummer. Their first album ウルノソラ already released 3 years ago on 2007. Old news but i just discovered this band from Hyakkei myspace. They play electropop music, but since they are indie musician you'll never find a "boring useless part" as you usually find in pop industry.

I just got Tekkonkikret Bluray! yay. The movie version are great, of course it's from the maker of Animatrix. The animation is awesome a mixture between 3d and 2d. And hereby a present you the magnificent screenshot.

Oh what a SURPRISE, there's Wayang (wich i just watch recently on Jogja) inside the movie after about 1 hour 15 minutes. Well i ever heard about Wayang show on Japan but it's only on Indonesian Embassy i think, or maybe somewhere else? Well this is the preview of the original Taiyo Matsumoto comic version.

Oh right! the ending song is from ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION titled 或る街の群青. Kind of peculiar huh? here's the movie trailer;

It's a rare movie, REALLY RARE because there's only 2 website contain this movie as far as i know which is Veoh and that Korean website. Veoh blocked and that korean website is in Hangul..damn but i get it anyway. It's a good movie consisting Japanese Poprock artist 木村カエラ and rock musician 奥田民生 as himself.

The design, jokes and music on this movie is great. So i buy the soundtrack since that is a non-existant mp3 on the internet, i buy the original, it's kinda exspensive but worthed anyway. And since i have it i upload it and share it here, guess i'm the only one who uploaded it...

End Year Central Java Tour 2009 Report

First day after along journey inside a car approximately about 12 hours..wew. Finally arrive at the hotel on Dieng, Wonosobo. The hotel is exatcly between two mountain which is Mt. Sindoro and Mt. Sumbing. I can see clear view on Sindoro not Sumbing because it's kind of the other side of the road covered up by house and some trees. Here is Mt. Sindoro pic that i take very early in the morning.

Dieng is really a high place and yes, it is cold. So then i take a bath in hot shower and pack up with double jacket. Go to the next destination on Dieng.

Pack up and ready to go, shake a leg!
First Sileri crater, it's the most active crater and it explode several times about 5 times (well 5 times is very often for crater to explode i think) since 1944. But there's really nothing to see here haha.Well except some water and fog.

Then of we go to Hindu temple site, it is the site for eight small Hindu temples from the 7th and 8th centuries, the oldest Hindu temples in Central Java, and the first known standing stone structures in Java. They are originally thought to have numbered 400 but only 8 remain, and i take only 2 photo of it. The first one is Arjuna temple and the second one is Sembadra temple.

Next stop is Sikadang, the big one. It's kinda far and i need to walk a bit to see it, and behind the crater there's a small hill and i think i can take a good photo up there so here's the magnificent whatever photo.

Then i go to Telaga Warna (Color Lake?). Ironicly it's consist only green color LOL and a monkey? There's a cave near here but it's only a very small cave for recluse (praying) so i'm not goin' there (it's small anyway).

After that a less long road to Salatiga, then after few hours i arrived on relative house on Salatiga, and stayed here for 3 days just for sleep at night and go around some other town to buy some stuff and have fun in the daylight.

Now on third day i go to to Semarang and next destination is Lawang Sewu it became more famous because of that ghost reality show that few years ago. It showed the ghost in the show and it's a setting of several Indonesian movie, one of it very popular mainstreamly and one another experimental movie which is my favourite, though it's not really good. Oh well, here you go;

Well it just an old building surrounded by new building of office and shopping mall, first it's not cool because it just being renovated, second it doesn't scary at all even at night.Yeah it's a Dutch building turn to place for executioner by Japanese, many people died here but yeah, nothing cool on this building. Just some old photo and sword and old coin and ghost stuff and some sleeping bat on the upper floor, well yeah there is really nothing special at all.Well maybe the story from the guide will interest you.

Next stop is Toko Oen, an old shop that been running since 30's, well sure it's really old. Even the website is in Dutch Language. The special food that they serve is an ice cream, Tutti Frutti ice cream.

4th day to Surakarta (Solo). Only go to Kraton to see some old stuff and cool sculpture. Not buy any batik on Klewer.

On 5th day, i visit my ancestors tomb just to do a prayer then say goodbye to relatives in Salatiga and finally to Yogyakarta!! First i go to the museum, inside it showing only some old carriage. I just take picture of some of it.

Then i travel around with Becak (pedicab). They bring me to the Batik shop and Wayang (Shadow Puppet) workshop and Antique Shop.

I want to buy a mask in the shop but it's very expensive and out of stock. So when i go back with becak i saw a little shop and stop there. Well finally i buy a mask here, wide selection and cheaper than the previous shop (well, not really cheap).

Next stop is only a museum nothing special there for me but look what a found! The British Journal Photographic Almanac! Damn, this thing should be on the library not inside a glasshouse. Can i borrow it?

Then off to the forest but...
It's late around 5pm already, place closed. I'll go here tomorrow.Then on the 6th day, i just walkin''round the forest and feeding monkey, yeah yeah...

New year oh yeah, i hate this kind of crowd, so i stay in the hotel and this is a photo from my brother on the street of Jogja, he said it's hard to walk and obviously impossible to bring a car. Let's just sleep on new year.

And then The LAST DAY, i go to the beach to Kukup beach, this several photo of it. Coral, water, sky aaaahh... It look's so good from upper ground.

The another beach is Baron beach, i'm just eating fish here because it's not so beatuful as Kukup anyway.

Then back to the hotel wait for the night so i can watch Wayang (shadow Puppet). I wait and the night come, so it's time for Wayang at Sonobudoyo Museum. Buy a ticket and go, sit down and watch.

Awesome fighting scene of Wayang that is captured by my brother, then turned to animation by me.

And this is the souvenir that i buy on this holiday on Central Java. Some display figure, music instrument and clothing. A Maracas, Onthel Bicycle miniature, mini wooden statue, a mask, and a Jimbay (or Djembe).

He attended the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he earned a B.A. in music composition and an M.A. with special emphasis on both electronic and ethnic music. Sakamoto recorded his first solo album in 1978, which included the songs «Thousand Knives» and «The End of Asia». Around the same time, Sakamoto joined the internationally successful Japanese synth J-Pop trio Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO), along with co-founders Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi. The band charted a British top 20 hit with «Firecracker» in the late 1970s (and are also remembered for «Technopolis», «Behind the Mask» and «Tong Poo»), and were a seminal influence on the acid house and techno movements of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Sakamoto has collaborated with David Sylvian on a number of singles and most of Sylvian’s albums. I LOVE this album.
Out of Noise released April 3, 2009. Out of Noise are Sakamoto’s first new release in five years. This album is followed by a series of 21 live performances throughout Japan, which are recorded and distributed within 24 hours in Japan exclusively via iTunes. Worldwide distribution will follow shortly thereafter. This is the first time iTunes has embarked on a deal to deliver recordings so rapidly.

I Already listen to YMO it's kind of similiar with band from Germany around the same timeline Kraftwerk but slightly different (well not slightly). And from a tryptic movie TOKYO! the ending song of this movie is by HASYMO some short of reunion band of YMO after the breakup. And the last one is his collaboration with German minimal artist Carsten Nicolai, the project named Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto. All of it are a really good music and very recommended to listen. I can't write all about 坂本龍一 because i don't really know that much, his career span from around 70's!! untill even now damn, even if i know it all it will be too long for an article LOL. Most of the song by hyakkei are relaxing, less-rock, easy listening tracks with fancy drumming. As they first album tagged hyakkei not 百景, but in their second they tagged both 百景 and hyakkei so it's kinda confusing on last.fm, but i prefer the kanji anyway.

A book by Ken Watanabe (no, not that movie star) about problem solving, it is about how you get your dreams come true, and a step by step how to make it and realize it. And the good thing is there are some example in this book with some cool funny kind of illustration.

I buy this book because i think i need it for some things. Like design problem or any life achievement stuff. Very recommend for anyone for shherrriousshhlyyy.

When i buy this game, i don't have a clue if it's good or bad. I buy it because simply i need a horror game for fill my time. The story span on 11 months on 1930, a noir oldies delusional horror. The in game design is good, it's like an old mix from scary fairy tale to survival horror with a sadcore. I know this is an old game, but i just finish it recently on 1 day only. Well this is the trailer, more like an opening of this game.

The bad feature only when it comes to battle with enemy, it actually sucks. Jennifer swing to the imps is..lame. It's fine actually because it's the theme of survival of a weak girl, trying to recover her memory of an old orpanage where all the kids is butchered except her (oops spoiler!). Here's the gameplay video..

And FYI this game is banned in UK, i think because child abuse issue, or maybe some violence by kids or..whatever...

Oh right the greatest thing that make this game awesome is the soundtrack. Yutaka Minobe score not using any electrical instrument, he only using humanist music instrument which is violin and their family like that big bass (i don't know the name), piano, etc. Nicely done soundtrack from Yutaka Minobe.

Well well i bought this two mini little car, a yellow cool classic mini cooper one and a modern one, a maroon porsche cayyens.

I know, i know it's childish. Because i buy this thomas train, yeaah whatever. The fanatic fans will see the laser pointer there that shouldn't be there, well this is a toy for kids, literally, because it will move and when it almost hit a wall the laser will make the train avoid the wall.

I like the show. Yeah i know it's for kindergarten, but whatever i love it, i like toys, and the color is really great. A train in the somehow british world, well yeah this is England tv series that already run since 70's some season already. Maybe if one of the fans from the old time see the pic, he will say, " Ow i don't remember Thomas has a laser pointer. Is that new on the show?" LOL Well that's it, The Blue Thomas err with a laser pointer.

A novel by Cormac McCarthy. An epic postapocalyptic tale about father and son who trying to survive in the wasted world of ashes. The plot in the novel are somehow slow then whenever things happening it becomes a bit fast. The thing is there's no chapter on the novel not even paragraph, it's only about 2 or 3 space between some little part, maybe that's what make me read it till the end, and it feel more postapocalyptic that way anyway. The author didn't give a name on the character, it's only father and son, papa and the boy, or else. They gone on the journey to warm place on the south.

I never really digg'n up books, but well, this one i shouldn't miss it i think. The movie adaptation already released in usa on 2009 though it's limited, then on uk around 2010. Just watch this trailer;

While browsing i find a good news on Ableton website, it's about Able 10 some kind of a free giving by ten artist. Well ten artist giving one of they song file in Ableton format, and the good news is one of my favourite artist, an icelandic band múm give one of their song in Ableton Live file which i think is on their newest album.

machinarium

machinarium is a point and click flash game by amanita design from...czech i think. The world is in some kind post apocalyptic scene, where there's no flesh and bone creature, just robot and electricity, in the steam punk color scheme. It's really an awesomely designed game, from the background the character and especially the great soundtrack from tomas dvorak which make this game feel so relaxing (except the puzzle wich is really damn confusing at one time or another).

It only contain about 30 level. Some of it are logical point and click usuall stuff, you know, combining stuff, put somewhere, get something, like in a classical point and click kind of detective game. And there are some minigame which kinda frustrating and make you stuck for a long time until...well refresh your mind and think more logically, or just an easy mini game like shooting enemies and get a score. Okay listen!

toe is one of my favourite japanese post-rock, math-rock band. You know, the drum play of this band is incredible. Rather than the bass or piano and guitar. Actually the guitar is cool too. Well i think if usually a frontman is a vocalist, on this band the frontman is a drummer.

I'm not really good on describe their music so this is from their last.fm page; "The vast majority of the music is instrumental and features the swift and acute drumming of Takashi. The band has changed their sound over their musical tenure by incorporating acoustic guitars, rhodes piano, and vibraphones in their most recent releases."

The members are:

Leaked Trailer : The Witcher 2

Okay this is the sequel of the first wonderful game, The Witcher. As you can see the watermark said it is for internal use, but well it leaked. So it's for us to watch.

I think it's a wonderful presentation of feature in this game. More movie like dialogue, more movie like battle, more interactivity, more realistic weather, wow it's gonna be awesome, it will be like playing Fable + STALKER + The Witcher, damn this is good. And since i love the first game, with more better feature like that i'm gonna love the sequel.

Here is some of the calming, listen before sleeping kind of music which i love to hear recently. They are all solo and duo artist, and i very reccommend it all;

Piana

It's not just the music that make me love this so much, her cute whispery childish voice is really cute, combined with ambient of dreamy atmospheric sound + glitch electronic drum and some nature sound from field recording are definitely awesome. She had 3 albums so far and so far, i love it all.

Cokiyu

She actually already play music as a collaboration project with some band (or someone) and released her only solo album, Mirror Flake. Whispery voice, ambient and atmospheric really similiar with Piana.

Matryoshka

Ambient and electronic glitch with a nice voice. One album and one remix album. Zatracenie, the 1st album sound's glitchy with some electronic orchestra remember me a little with The Album Leaf. Still overall it definitely worth of an album.

World's End Girlfriend

About World's End Girlfriend actually i only listen to that soundtrack album for japanese movie "Air Doll" which that Bae Doona play as a character there. But i think the song on this video already describe what kind of music he play (or maybe not), beautiful paced violin and piano arrangement perfect for soundtrack.

hai hai hai, at last i eat udon. After a long wait. Well making the noodles is not hard, because i buy the instant version. But making the soup is kinda tricky. Well the soup is the one that make eating udon is great. So making the soup is different each person, because it based on your own favourite taste. About the noodle, there's some way to make the noodles. But even the native expert will find it hard to make it perfect.

I love noodles, any kind of it, but this movie make me want to eat udon heheheh...

pfft...i think i'm hungry now. Well it's time to eat it. いただきます！！

Not so long ago, one of my friend tell me to check out this band, which eventually i found it good. This is a band from England consisting the member of Devo, The Chemical Brothers and The Grateful Dead. Based on Manchester. This is their second album but since it consist all the song from the first album too in 2 disc, so i think this is their first album.

From my opinion sometimes it remember me of Coldplay, Bloc Party, UNKLE, and even Massive Attack. Well UK music is always feel like similiar because the Accent, music atmosphere, and sound mixing.

My favourite track is "Troubled Son", "Rocket", and "England". Personally i like this album. There's constant static mood from start till end, what i mean is, it consist fast, middle, and slow tempo spreading entire 2 disc album. Well it's not make the perfect album but still good enough. I give personal score of this album 7,8 ratings.

Memories of Matsuko

This movie is about mmm, well, you know; Matsuko obviously. It's pretty much like Forest Gump or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, it's like about life one person from start to end and what's going around it.

First i thought this gonna be mellowdramatic movie with super shitty effect, girly girly stuff, but i change my mind even from the very beginning of the movie. It's full of life concepttual, family value stuff, phylosophy, even silly joke (really funny) from start till the end added with some musical stuff.

Yeah face face face. Here's the trailer. Don't expect people to interested in the trailer. Should just watch it without any bad thought.

Seriously i don't like the trailer. Well the effect this movie is so girly so i don't really like it, but the story and the jokes cover it all. So i think i give this movie 9.5 rating.

té 1st Album

Firt album of té, i think this is their best album compared to their 2nd and 3rd, i prefer this one, because of that it still feel authentic and some reason.

This band play an instrumental music more like Post-rock, Math-rock with middle to fast tempo. From slightly track 1 to 4 all track is awesome, then 5,6,7 kinda middle tempo but i still like it. Track 8 is the best for this album. 9 and 10 is the ending.

Well i personally play track 1 to 4, and 8 while driving on the highway, it feels reaally greeaat (especially 8).

Karen O at Home - The Demos

Demos leaked on the internet, some guy found it and uploaded to the internet. This is actually like a present from Karen O to the guitarist of "TV on the Radio". This never intended to release to the public.

I Already listen to it and found that it is not so good, but because i'm the fans of "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" i find it interesting. It's like a B-side album that never gonna released but leaked. Theres no formal track listing for this disc, but Karen O has said that track 6 is called "Pumpkin" and track 7 is called "Snakes and Worms". Here's the link KO at Home

LINDA LINDA LINDA

This movie is a laid back, spice-of-life movie about teenage hischool girl that playing music in a band. The song Linda Linda is a hit song from a Japanese 80's punkrock band named The Blue Hearts.

It's like everyday life in reality, school, band, the band break up, and one girl a korean exchange student be asked to join the band. The band called PARANMAUM, which means The Blue Hearts in Korean. I pretty much enjoy this movie, some people say its boring. But that is slice-of-life! and by the way i really like the main song Linda Linda Linda, its pretty good because it definitely sounds like Ramones.

You see the vocalist? Yeah Bae Doona, the reason i watch this movie haha. Her character is innocently funny. Well school, band, friends.

They release 2 soundtrack, one is full soundtrack featuring James lha (The Smashing Pumpkins), Base Ball Bear (The bassist who play on PARANMAUM is Base Ball Bear real bassist player), and obviously the fictional band PARANMAUM is in here too. Another soundtrack is a six track E.P. album from PARANMAUM titled We Are PARANMAUM. My favorite track is PARANMAUM - Linda Linda.

Supernatural Prequel

I just got this Comic and love it for sure, a prequel of Supernatural Tv Series. This Prequel are in the format of comic book, the first six issue, (named Supernatural: Origins) tells the story after Mary being burned while hanged at the ceiling, that John want to find who or what kill her. He became a hunter, and so another hunter help him, while John put their kids Sam and Dean somewhere save. So after all this is the very first hunting journey of John Winchester.

And the next six chapter is Supernatural: Rising Son, the story continues from to origins but this time, John already getting better. It tells the very first time Dean help his dad fighting monster and killing someone at the age of 12! It also tells about John encounter with Lilith (Yeah damn her!) who want Sam. Also someone has mentioned Sammy to be "special" as to lead the army of hell.

Jacob's Ladder

Nope not that christian's, jew's or muslim's biblical jacob's ladder, though basicly it used as reference. This one is an old movie from 1990. A somehow surrealistical and twisted horror with a strange cynnical plot.

It's a movie about vietnam war veteran who find that living after war isn't that easy. Well this movie is very heavy i think, and obviously it's not for kid. You see there's nudity, hallucination, blood and flesh, some other stuff that need a deep thinking.

The plot is in the present then a LOT of flashing flash back, and then another flash back, and sometimes it confuses me, because Jacob wake up and it's like the present time is a dream, and twisted other stuff like that. Well you can see the tagline "The most frightening thing about Jacob Singer's nightmare is that he isn't dreaming." which is describe it well.

Jacob's frustated a lot, from pain from the past, his hurting back. And somehow someone trying to kill him and his vietnam war veteran friends. But thing's get complicated and somehow he feels he wants to die and a catchy quotes from his doctor "If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. If you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth." which make me think that Jacob's dying.

But the most confusing thing is the ending!! That make me think "Why the HELL it's like this? When It's like that?" but i think i understand the story, well i have personal stuff too that been talked about in this movie. Well It's good. Heavy but good.

Why i watch old movie like this? Well it's simple, my favourite game series; Silent Hill, has mentioned this movie as a reference. And what i feel from this movie is a LOT of Silent Hill Surrealism feeling, vibe, ambient, and some of the scene, some dialog and of course music ambient that has a silent hill feeling. Well i think Akira Yamaoka very inspired making silent hill music from this movie.

Even from the very first and legendary 1999's Silent Hill until the last 2008's Silent Hill: Homecoming has a reference from this movie. And another thing that i like is that this movie is remembering me of a surrealistic twisted plot from the 1960's tv series The Twilight Zone.

So basicly it's all connected. You see "Supernatural" tv series connected with "The Twilight Zone" and "Silent Hill: Homecoming", Mew's 156 i think it's the number of all 5 seasons of "The Twilight Zone", And "Jacob's Ladder" connected to "The Twilight Zone", "Silent Hill" and "Supernatural" AWESOME!!

UNIQLOCK paris / france

My favourite brand all over the world UNIQLO, is a brand from Japan. My first uniqlo clothing is a grey cardigan that i found in a cheap store only about as same as 1.5$ awesome! and my second uniqlo is a blue sweater, a gift from my friend who move to Japan. Well he bought it after one month work effort just to buy some stuff to some of his friend, what a good friend. New megastore just open near shinjuku station, tokyo. A simple concept that the façade is composed of two surfaces with geometrical lit lines. the lines make the materiality of the facade and architecture disappear so that only the uniqlo logos remain at night.

and this several mix and match that i think is good enough. I mean the colour mix and match. I mean it's not my style, not for my body so i should adaptated it to myself, yeah yeah you know what i mean.

and by the way the brand new UNIQLOCK paris / france has been released. Well it's actually a screensaver (windows only yeah!), but it's still cannot be downloaded for now. Here's a couple screen capture.

カヒミ・カリィ - NUNKI

At this long Holiday i've been listening to NUNKI, latest work of Kahimi Karie - a Japanese shibuya-kei vocalist who sings in Japanese, English, and French. Well almost entire of her career she spent on Paris so maybe her music are more like French music. "NUNKI" is truly a great album. Most of it is very quiet, an ambient mixture with a guitar and Kahimi's voice making for a well balanced and pleasant sound. She's gone on to create some of the most challenging, odd, and impressive music in the Japanese music scene. The music she created simultaneously inviting and challenging, an hour long lullaby that ranges from the gently traditional to the inaccessibly abstract.

Mind Game

this movie is realy FUNNY! very refreshing, entertaining and blowing mind, well that is Mind Game a film by Masaaki Yuasa. A lot color, form, creativity and smile. This movie is about opportunity in life, regret, every little decision in life can change your future, and life to the fullest thing, and it all told wildy and witty. It's really nice, some part of the realistic face placed to show expression its just like sponge-bob jokes.

No More Stories EP

It has been announced that Mew will release a new EP, titled No More Stories, on June 30. It will include two new tracks from the upcoming studio album, plus three B-sides. Beware! I already listen to it. The 1st track is EPIC, 2nd track is kinda awkward intro but cool, the 3rd song "owl" is kinda different and two other track are very mew. But i still like the outcome of the EP. Just can't hardly wait for the full album.

I just watch this movie within this week, and i suggest people not to read the description or synopsis because i think it just better if we just watch it, its GREAT! from 1 to 10 mmm i think 9, oh because there's one moment that i dont like haha just, not comfortable. Three awesome director, three short movie set in Tokyo with one main theme, awesome movie, this is the peculiar, cool trailer;
